  4. Ordering a Windows Client
  5.  
  6. The following steps outline the ordering process for a Windows 
  7. Client. Use these instructions with the Windows Client product 
  8. structure information detailed on page 55 which specifies all 
  9. products and options which may be ordered. You will need to 
  10. repeat the process for each variation in customer configurations 
  11. the customer requires.
  12.  
  13. Step 1 - Select Monitor (Required)
  14.  
  15. o  Base configuration provides almost all Windows Client elements 
  16.    including: processing unit, keyboard, mouse, Microsoft/WRQ 
  17.    licenses
  18. o  The correct monitor is selected (or a monitor-less 
  19.    configuration) by choosing the product number which 
  20.    corresponds to the monitor desired
  21.  
  22. Step 2 - Select Additional Memory (Optional)
  23.  
  24. o  Choose the option(s) corresponding to the desired SIMM(s) if 
  25.    additional memory is required beyond the 4 MB standard memory 
  26.    (see page 40-41 for guidelines on when additional memory is 
  27.    needed)
  28. o  You can order up to 2 different memory options or quantity 2 
  29.    of a single memory option
  30. o  Note that a 2 MB SIMM can only be used with a 4 MB SIMM and an 
  31.    8 MB SIMM cannot be used with another 8 MB SIMM
  32. o  16 MB SIMMs not available until October 1993
  33.  
  34. Step 3 - Specify Country/Language (Required)
  35.  
  36. o  Select the Option corresponding to the country/language as 
  37.    available
  38. o  Includes Country-specific power module/cord and language-
  39.    specific keyboard and language-specific documentation as 
  40.    available
  41. o  One country/language option must be specified for every 
  42.    Windows Client
  43.  
  44. Step 4 - Select Server Kit (One Require Per Server)
  45.  
  46. o  Select Server Kit (supports an unlimited number of users)
  47.  
  48. o  Server Kit includes:
  49.    - media and documentation for Microsoft DOS 6.0 and Windows 
  50.      3.1
  51.    - media and documentation for WRQ Reflection RNS, R1 for 
  52.      Windows, and R2 for Windows (also includes a license to use 
  53.      WRQ on the system administrator's PC)
  54.    - HP-provided boot images and device drivers
  55.    - Installation Manual for the system administrator
  56.    - WRQ and HP telephone assistance and HP PC Bulletin Board 
  57.      Service
  58.  
  59. o  The Server Kit is ordered as an option on a Windows Client. 
  60.    Order as quantity 1 for every server where Microsoft DOS and 
  61.    Windows is to be installed (unless the customer wants more 
  62.    than one copy of the media and documentation)
  63. o  The language for server software and documentation is 
  64.    specified by selecting the server kit option number 
  65.    corresponding to the language desired. Windows is always 
  66.    localized; others as available
  67.  
  68. Step 5 - Upgrade Support (Optional)
  69.  
  70. o  The standard warranty of the Windows Client (return to HP) can 
  71.    be upgraded (to On-Site Repair) through selection of a Support 
  72.    option
  73. o  Can also be used for the customer to select HP installation

  152. Configuring Systems With Windows Clients
  153. ----------------------------------------
  154.  
  155. The following steps outline the configuration/ordering process 
  156. for HP 3000 and 9000 systems with Windows Clients. Use these 
  157. instructions with the product structure and configuration 
  158. information specified in the HP 3000 and HP 9000 Configuration 
  159. Guides.
  160.  
  161. Step 1 - File Server Strategy
  162.  
  163. Customer can choose to either:
  164.  
  165. o Share the HP 3000 or 9000 as application servers and boot/file 
  166.   servers (single server strategy); only use with smaller 
  167.   configurations or exclusively terminal emulation environments 
  168.  (see page 43)
  169. o Dedicate PC servers to offload HP 3000 or 9000 application 
  170.   servers of boot/file overhead (multi-server strategy)
  171. o Check that the Network Operating System desired by the customer 
  172.   is supported on the desired server (see page 42)
  173.  
  174. Step 2 - Configure Server
  175.  
  176. o Order HP 3000 NetWare or 9000 NetWare or 9000 LMX network 
  177.   operating system software if your customer is planning to use a 
  178.   shared server configuration with the HP 3000 or 9000 as the 
  179.   file and boot server. 
  180. o HP 3000 NetWare requires Thin LAN Link/iX Network Link 
  181.   (P/N 36923A) and the HP 9000 requires HP-UX 9.0 and Streams/UX 
  182.   (P/N J2237A). Add to the order if not already planned
  183. o Insure Portable NetWare version A.11.02 (or later) is used, as 
  184.   earlier versions had poor application download performance
  185. o Customer needs to purchase PC servers and PC network operating 
  186.   system software separately from HP 3000 and 9000 systems
  187.  
  188. Step 3 - System Administrator's PC (Or Other PCs)
  189.  
  190. o Every installation will need a DOS-capable traditional 
  191.   networked PC (non-Windows Client) with a floppy disk drive for 
  192.   the system administrator to load PC applications
  193. o The server kit includes a single license for Reflection R1 for 
  194.   Windows, R2 for Windows, and RNS that can be used on the system 
  195.   administrators traditional networked PC (i.e., the customer 
  196.   doesn't need to buy Reflection separately)
  197. o The customer must provide DOS on the system administrators PC 
  198.   (Most PCs with hard disks today are sold with bundled DOS)
  199. o The customer should purchase any non-Windows Client traditional 
  200.   PCs they require separately or use ones they already have in-
  201.   house
  202.  
  203. Step 4 - Network Products
  204.  
  205. o Customers can use 10-Base-T twisted pair, coax, or fiber optic 
  206.   wiring schemes with the Windows Client
  207. o Hubs (and management software) need to be ordered for 10-Base-T 
  208.   configurations
  209. o Transceivers need to be ordered for AUI attachment with coax or 
  210.   fiber optic connections (see page 37)

  212. Ordering Example
  213. ----------------

  215. Customer requirements
  216.  
  217. A U.S. customer plans to use Windows Clients with a new customer 
  218. service application on an installed HP system. 15 users will be 
  219. spend much of the working day processing updates to the customer 
  220. service database and occasionally produce written customer 
  221. correspondence. The manager of the group wants to be able to 
  222. simultaneously run several additional PC applications and needs 
  223. to be able to demonstrate the benefits of the customer service 
  224. system to prospective customers. The customer is interested in 
  225. color displays, but is on a tight budget. The customer recently 
  226. installed a new 486 file server for a small workgroup of PCs 
  227. which is not heavily utilized. The system administrator has a 386 
  228. Vectra with DOS and Windows installed. The customer uses 
  229. Ethertwist cabling and will need networking hardware.
  230.  
  231. Your proposal
  232.  
  233. Because of the heavy usage of the Windows Clients, you recommend 
  234. that the customer purchase Super VGA displays for all the users. 
  235. Also, you recommend the 15" display for the manager to more 
  236. effectively demonstrate the application. To keep the customer 
  237. inside the available budget (and afford the higher quality 
  238. displays), you recommend the customer use the partially utilized 
  239. 486 server as a file and boot device. All users (except for the 
  240. manager) should experience good performance running their light 
  241. PC workload with the standard 4 MB Windows Client memory 
  242. configuration. You recommend 8 MB of memory on the manager's 
  243. client to handle a more demanding PC application workload. Two 8 
  244. port EtherTwist hubs will be required to support the additional 
  245. users. Because the system administrator already has a PC with a 
  246. floppy drive installed, there isn't a need to purchase one.
