8. Pricing and Ordering
=======================
Ordering a Windows Client
The following steps outline the ordering process for a Windows
Client. Use these instructions with the Windows Client product
structure information detailed on page 55 which specifies all
products and options which may be ordered. You will need to
repeat the process for each variation in customer configurations
the customer requires.
Step 1 - Select Monitor (Required)
o Base configuration provides almost all Windows Client elements
including: processing unit, keyboard, mouse, Microsoft/WRQ
licenses
o The correct monitor is selected (or a monitor-less
configuration) by choosing the product number which
corresponds to the monitor desired
Step 2 - Select Additional Memory (Optional)
o Choose the option(s) corresponding to the desired SIMM(s) if
additional memory is required beyond the 4 MB standard memory
(see page 40-41 for guidelines on when additional memory is
needed)
o You can order up to 2 different memory options or quantity 2
of a single memory option
o Note that a 2 MB SIMM can only be used with a 4 MB SIMM and an
8 MB SIMM cannot be used with another 8 MB SIMM
o 16 MB SIMMs not available until October 1993
Step 3 - Specify Country/Language (Required)
o Select the Option corresponding to the country/language as
available
o Includes Country-specific power module/cord and language-
specific keyboard and language-specific documentation as
available
o One country/language option must be specified for every
Windows Client
Step 4 - Select Server Kit (One Require Per Server)
o Select Server Kit (supports an unlimited number of users)
o Server Kit includes:
- media and documentation for Microsoft DOS 6.0 and Windows
3.1
- media and documentation for WRQ Reflection RNS, R1 for
Windows, and R2 for Windows (also includes a license to use
WRQ on the system administrator's PC)
- HP-provided boot images and device drivers
- Installation Manual for the system administrator
- WRQ and HP telephone assistance and HP PC Bulletin Board
Service
o The Server Kit is ordered as an option on a Windows Client.
Order as quantity 1 for every server where Microsoft DOS and
Windows is to be installed (unless the customer wants more
than one copy of the media and documentation)
o The language for server software and documentation is
specified by selecting the server kit option number
corresponding to the language desired. Windows is always
localized; others as available
Step 5 - Upgrade Support (Optional)
o The standard warranty of the Windows Client (return to HP) can
be upgraded (to On-Site Repair) through selection of a Support
option
o Can also be used for the customer to select HP installation

Configuring Systems With Windows Clients
----------------------------------------
The following steps outline the configuration/ordering process
for HP 3000 and 9000 systems with Windows Clients. Use these
instructions with the product structure and configuration
information specified in the HP 3000 and HP 9000 Configuration
Guides.
Step 1 - File Server Strategy
Customer can choose to either:
o Share the HP 3000 or 9000 as application servers and boot/file
servers (single server strategy); only use with smaller
configurations or exclusively terminal emulation environments
(see page 43)
o Dedicate PC servers to offload HP 3000 or 9000 application
servers of boot/file overhead (multi-server strategy)
o Check that the Network Operating System desired by the customer
is supported on the desired server (see page 42)
Step 2 - Configure Server
o Order HP 3000 NetWare or 9000 NetWare or 9000 LMX network
operating system software if your customer is planning to use a
shared server configuration with the HP 3000 or 9000 as the
file and boot server.
o HP 3000 NetWare requires Thin LAN Link/iX Network Link
(P/N 36923A) and the HP 9000 requires HP-UX 9.0 and Streams/UX
(P/N J2237A). Add to the order if not already planned
o Insure Portable NetWare version A.11.02 (or later) is used, as
earlier versions had poor application download performance
o Customer needs to purchase PC servers and PC network operating
system software separately from HP 3000 and 9000 systems
Step 3 - System Administrator's PC (Or Other PCs)
o Every installation will need a DOS-capable traditional
networked PC (non-Windows Client) with a floppy disk drive for
the system administrator to load PC applications
o The server kit includes a single license for Reflection R1 for
Windows, R2 for Windows, and RNS that can be used on the system
administrators traditional networked PC (i.e., the customer
doesn't need to buy Reflection separately)
o The customer must provide DOS on the system administrators PC
(Most PCs with hard disks today are sold with bundled DOS)
o The customer should purchase any non-Windows Client traditional
PCs they require separately or use ones they already have in-
house
Step 4 - Network Products
o Customers can use 10-Base-T twisted pair, coax, or fiber optic
wiring schemes with the Windows Client
o Hubs (and management software) need to be ordered for 10-Base-T
configurations
o Transceivers need to be ordered for AUI attachment with coax or
fiber optic connections (see page 37)
Ordering Example
----------------
Customer requirements
A U.S. customer plans to use Windows Clients with a new customer
service application on an installed HP system. 15 users will be
spend much of the working day processing updates to the customer
service database and occasionally produce written customer
correspondence. The manager of the group wants to be able to
simultaneously run several additional PC applications and needs
to be able to demonstrate the benefits of the customer service
system to prospective customers. The customer is interested in
color displays, but is on a tight budget. The customer recently
installed a new 486 file server for a small workgroup of PCs
which is not heavily utilized. The system administrator has a 386
Vectra with DOS and Windows installed. The customer uses
Ethertwist cabling and will need networking hardware.
Your proposal
Because of the heavy usage of the Windows Clients, you recommend
that the customer purchase Super VGA displays for all the users.
Also, you recommend the 15" display for the manager to more
effectively demonstrate the application. To keep the customer
inside the available budget (and afford the higher quality
displays), you recommend the customer use the partially utilized
486 server as a file and boot device. All users (except for the
manager) should experience good performance running their light
PC workload with the standard 4 MB Windows Client memory
configuration. You recommend 8 MB of memory on the manager's
client to handle a more demanding PC application workload. Two 8
port EtherTwist hubs will be required to support the additional
users. Because the system administrator already has a PC with a
floppy drive installed, there isn't a need to purchase one.
